The luxury Aria Hotel and Casino Resort, located in Las Vegas, hosts a series of high roller poker tournaments on a monthly basis. March 2017 started off with three scheduled events, namely two $25,000 No-Limit Hold’em tournaments and a $50,00 Super High-Roller event.
The weekend commenced with the first $25,000 Aria High Roller No-Limit Hold’em event which kicked off at 2 pm local time. The tournament attracted a field of 33 entries that contributed to a huge prize pool of $792,000. The final table saw five survivors competing for the first-place prize of $364,320, but it was Jake Schindler, who claimed the champion title and collected the largest payout.
This is a second final table appearance for Schindler for 2017 as the player also finished at sixth place in the $1,600 No-Limit Hold’em tournament in the Venetian DeepStack Extravaganza that was a held just a week earlier. Schindler’s latest win boosted his total live earning a little over $8.6 million. The champion was followed by Claas Segebrecht, who came in second and bagged a payout of $198,000. Bryn Kenney settled for the third-place prize of $110,880 at his seventh final table appearance for the year.
The second $25,000 Aria High Roller No-Limit Hold’em event boasted a prize pool of $744,000, with contributions from a total of 31 entrants. The massive prize pool was divided among the top five players who made it to the final table. Kenney was again among the five finalists but this time, the player finished fourth to pocket a prize of $66,960. Kenney has so far collected over $2.4 million in year-to-date earnings.
Kenney’s performance at the second $25,000 Aria High Roller event was impressive but it was opponent Daniel Colman, who claimed the champion title and bagged the $342,240 first-place prize. Colman called with ace-queen against the king-eight of opponent Adrian Mateos. As the river brought another queen, Mateos had no other option but to settle for the second place and a payout of $186,000. David Peters came in third with a prize of $104,160.
The weekend finished with the $50,000 Aria Super High Roller No-Limit Hold’em battle, which attracted a field of 24 entrants to build an impressive prize pool of $1,152,000. The event attracted notable players like Cary Katz, Sean Winter, and Jan Eric Schwippert. However, it was Rainer Kempe, who finished first and went home with a payout of $576,000. Kempe and head-to-head opponent Jan Eric Schwippert both had flush draws but the river missed the draws and Kempe prevailed with a straight to capture the champion title.
